PROJECT DOSSIER
2014
Eagle Scout
Eagle Scout
Earned the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts of America (2014) — the BSA's highest advancement rank.
PROBLEM
Eagle is the Boy Scouts' highest rank, reached by a minority of scouts. It takes years of advancement and merit badges across a wide range of disciplines, capped by planning and leading a substantial community service project.
APPROACH
Worked through the BSA advancement ranks and merit-badge requirements over years, culminating in an Eagle Scout leadership service project.
EXECUTION
It was a beautification project for a local elementary school. Two main parts. The first was painting some signs that had the English and Latin names for some of the trees/plants in the recess area. The other part, much more ambitious, was getting one of the older church members my troop affiliated with to drag his bush hog through a section of the woods nearby to form a trail. It was a really cool time, and in retrospect, having 20 something other folks helping out is crazy for a high schooler. My church was a good community, really swell folk.
OUTCOME
Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts of America — 2014. The earliest entry on this timeline, and the first of the leadership through-lines that recur later (leading the Air Force undergrad team, the MoD project group).
